Cannot Replace

Hey everyone, how have you been?

I know most of you must have heard about the devastating earthquake which struck Haiti on Tuesday, January 12th 2010. There is something saddening about this date; for the disaster struck just 11 days after new years. It's unfortunate to have a year start off like this; especially when everyone has set new year's resolutions to be happier and stronger.

Truly the effect the level 7 earthquake had on the lives of the people was enormous. Even though it has been a week, more and more bodies are being found under the rubble of fallen buildings. Just imagine something like this just eliminating all the joy you attained in a given moment, and having your entire life being washed away in front of your eyes. It is upsetting, the fact that so many lost so much in so little time. The aftermath wasn't as great either for these people lost whatever they possibly possessed due to an unwanted will of nature.

Situations like these have always made me sad, not because of the fact that innocent people passed away, or because there was a large loss of resources, but because of the fact that people who once used to be strong and had dreams like I do, might never be able to be strong and dream again. Of course life is unpredictable because I could be walking down the side walk and be struck by lightning on a sunny day, or god forbid lose someone very important to me; however as harsh as it sounds, I cannot lose the strength and will I have in myself even though a large part of who I am is now non-existent.

The people of Haiti have lost a lot. It's funny how we can be selfish and worry about the little problems in our lives which fail to have a meaning; however still think that we have the worst life in the world. Well, maybe it's time we wake up and face reality. This is an International Disaster, this is the REAL problem.

Of course, we all have our share of sorrow, but truly, if we are wasting time on gaining the respect of people, or are weeping about losing a job, is that really important than being happy? We are all blessed, blessed because we weren't in a disaster like the people in Haiti were, we are blessed because we didn't have to face a situation in which we had a building fall on top of us. We are lucky, and we fail to realize the value of our lives; more over we fail to recognize OURSELVES, and what we have been gifted with.

As much as this was a bad start to the year 2010, also known as a "new decade," I would strongly support the idea that as bad as this situation was, it was an eye opener for many individuals in the world. The people of Haiti lost a lot, and my respects go to all of them; I truly hope they are blessed with the strength to overcome the barriers they now have to face. I am happy about this situation because of the fact that this made some people realize that there is more to life than giving up and weeping over what was not meant to be. Who would have guessed that this earthquake was going to strike Haiti, kill a large amount of people, and almost all the countries in the world would come together and provide aid to those who are suffering? This situation has helped unite the people in the world, regardless of the differences they might have.

The simple saying, "Don't cry over spilled milk," which was taught to us in elementary school carries great importance in the lives of everyone. Everyone has issues, stresses, problems, and loss; however crying and grieving over a situation which didn't work the way one expected it to be is the worst possible thing to do. You are only sad if you let yourself be.

There was a great sorrow in the world when the earthquake struck Haiti, and destroyed the dreams of many; however it is something we all can learn from. The people have lost a lot, and it can never be replaced by newer things; however their happiness and future depends on their own will power and strength; thus something we all should depend on.

We are all chosen to face a great problem sometime in our life; however that problem can be dealt with if we chose to. We were all born with the strength and courage, so why not use it?

What happened in Haiti was truly unfortunate and I give my respects to all the survivors and those who lost their families or their lives. I truly pray for their well being and hope that they are blessed with the strength to overcome the barriers they now have to face. <3>
